Many pianos are made in the Limoges style, named after the region in France that is a superb producer of ceramic trinket boxes. The pianos on this page are either real Limoges pianos or are in the Limoges fashion. Most Limoges boxes are hinged, but some have removable lids.

Pianos in my collection:

On the left is a grand piano hinged box made of hand-painted porcelain. It measures 2 1/4" across by 2" high. The trinket box on the right is white and has gold-painted keys and pastel flowers painted around it and on the lid. The clasp is a detailed golden bow. This little piano is a piece of Lefton China. It is hand-painted and marked on the bottom with the Lefton China logo, which says ©1997, and also has a Lefton China sticker on the bottom. This piano measures 2 1/2" across by 1 3/4" high.

This Limoges-style pillbox is labeled "A Grand Performance." The clasp is a bronze bow. There is a sticker on the bottom that says "Midwest of Cannon Falls" and that the piece is made in China. This round pillbox is 1 3/4" across and 2 1/4" high.

Pianos not in my collection:
Authentic Limoges boxes

This charming piece is delicately styled and hand-painted to depict a miniature grand piano. It measures approximately 3 1/2" long by 2" across by 2" high. The piano is detailed in gold and its top and sides have beautiful floral accents in pink, yellow, blue, and lavender. The lid opens and has two painted treble clefs plus a brass treble clef which serves to hold the lid up. On the bottom is the artist's signature "ROCHARD."

The authentic Limoges upright piano on the left is hand-painted in shimmering black and detailed in genuine 22K gold. On top sits a figural music book with sheet music. On the right is another Limoges piano trinket box.

This piano from Limoges, France measures 2 1/2" high by 5" long by 3" across. It is cobalt blue with gold trim and has a removable top.

The authentic Limoges piano on the left is decorated with a wood-like finish and gold. It measures 3 1/2" long by 2" across by 2" high. The burgundy and gold box on the right has a young lovers scene depicted on the lid. An inscription on the base says "LIMOGES France." The piece is 7cms long, 5cms across, and 4cms high.

This cobalt blue and gold box is signed "Limoges France." When you open the lid it also has a gold floral decoration on the inside of the piano. The piece measures 3 3/4" long by 2" across.

Limoges-style Boxes

This is a hinged trinket box with a cat on top of a piano and a little mouse below.

This tiny Limoges piece is pictured next to a quarter so you can tell how small it is.

This floral grand piano ceramic jewelry box is made in Japan and measures 5" long by 2 1/2" high.

The black piano porcelain hinged box on the left measures 3" across by 2 1/2" high and comes with a bench. It's similar to the one I have, except the legs are detailed in gold instead of black. On the right is a very similar hand-made porcelain hinged box that is beautifully detailed and measures 3 1/2" long. An elephant is playing the piano.

From Flambro Imports comes this very elegant Peanuts porcelain hinged box. It is entitled "Piano Man." This hand-crafted, hand-painted treasure box depicts Schroeder at his piano. It measures approximately 3" high by 3 3/4" long. It opens to reveal a small compartment and is part of the 1998 collection.
